Google Pixel 3 XL to have Wireless Charging Support

Rumors of upcoming Google Pixel 3 series have already started pouring in. A prototype of Google Pixel 3 XL was leaked online a few days back. The photo shows Google has finally followed the “trend of 2018”, yes the notch. Surprisingly, the Pixel 3 XL still has single camera at the rear.

The notch on the front looks to be housing two lenses which would make this is the first Pixel smartphone to sport two cameras on one side. Earlier, Pixel 3 XL was suspected to support Wireless charging, though the design is not a complete evidence, the source code is. Wireless charging permissions have been added in latest Android P’s source code.  Again, this might simply mean Android P itself is opening the doors for it, but, considering Android P will debut with the Pixel 3, the pairing couldn’t be more perfect.

Overall, there doesn’t seem to be major changes at the back. The Pixel 3 is expected to be powered by latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The Pixel 2 did not have a headphone jack and this prototype also shows that the Pixel 3 will not be reintroducing it.

Google could change the design plans for the Pixel 3 series ahead of its expected launch in October. Prototype doesn’t mean the design has been finalized but the possibility cannot be ignored either.

Another feature which might feature in Pixel 3 series is Squeezable sides. The feature was first introduced on Google Pixel 2 as a quick way to launch the Google Assistant. It also appeared in HTC U11 but we could customize which app was launched when squeezed. Since HTC’s engineers also work on Google’s Pixel phones, perhaps the feature will get some added functions if it comes to the Pixel 3.
