Instagram may launch Music Stickers soon, revealed in code changes

Facebook-owned Instagram is planning to launch Music Stickers that allows users to search for a particular song and add a “music overlay sticker”. You will also be able to add clip of a song in the background of their Story. Instagram is also testing a feature wherein the app automatically detects a song you’re listening to and display the artist and song title.

First spotted by Ishan Agarwal, the feature allows the users to search the song based on  “Trending,” “Genres,” and “Moods.” But from where will these music be sourced? May be from parent Facebook’s licensing deals with UMG, Sony, and Warner Bros. The deal with UMG specified its music could be used in “video and other social experiences across Facebook, Instagram and Oculus.”

The move could can cause trouble for Music.ly, a widely popular app that lets users make videos of themselves singing along to popular songs. This year we saw Instagram release slew of new features which include text stories, sharing screenshots to stories and fitting image to screen.
