WhatsApp is undoubtedly the most popular instant messaging app. From sending greetings to making calls, payments to video calls, all these features make WhatsApp standout in Instant Messaging segment. Recently, some users are facing issues with the functioning of their WhatsApp after they deliberately tap on an prank message. A single tap on the message makes WhatsApp hang for a few seconds.
Whatsapp Black Dot message
The message is being widely forwarded on WhatsApp and people are having a great laugh. This message that says “If you touch the black point then your whatsapp will hang” has been doing rounds on WhatsApp. Well, according to this message, if a user touches the black spot (or Black Dot) that’s included in the message, his WhatsApp will “hang”.
We tested the glitch and our phone went unresponsive for few seconds before the app crashed. This isn’t any magic or the black dot has nothing to do with the crash. The main culprit here is the blank space after the Black Dot. On converting the text to HTML, you will find RLM (right-to-left mark) directional formatting. Right-to-left text directional formatting is used in Arabic and Urdu whereas LRM(left-to-right) text directional formatting is used in languages like Hindi and English.
When an invisible RLM character is used it’s instructing WhatsApp to change the direction from left-to-right to right-to-left, as a result the app crashes. Do note that conversion of RLM text to LRM text needs a lot of processing power, hence WhatsApp might not crash on high end smartphones. The glitch is currently being exploited on Android smartphones only. There have been no reports of iOS users facing this issue.
The best way to get rid of this glitch is by deleting that message. However, if you want to wreck havoc on your friends and cousins phone then go ahead with this prank.
