Black Shark is the new gaming phone from Xiaomi

Xiaomi is all set to enter gaming phone market. The Black Shark phone from Xiaomi will be the company’s first ever gaming phone. For those who don’t know, Black Shark is a Chinese company in which Xiaomi has invested. Though in many countries, people use their smartphones for playing casual games but in China the market for a gaming phone is likely much higher.

Xiaomi Black Shark

The Xiaomi Black Shark seems to be an inspiration from Razor’s gaming phone last year. It also has black and green styling we saw from the gaming peripheral company. Looking at the specs, the device is embedded with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. It also has 1080p resolution display with 21:9 aspect ratio.

One potential problem with gaming phone is the battery life and refresh rate. Xiaomi has added 4,000 mAh battery, however there has been no mention regarding refresh rate. Graphically intensive game need quick reaction and an added 120 Hz panel is much needed. The term “Liquid Cooling” is unclear as to what that term means in terms of the Xiaomi Black Shark phone, but considering the fact that a liquid cooled PC takes some extremely specialized equipment, we doubt Xiaomi is liquid for cooling.

The Black Shark runs on Android Oreo 8.1 with unspecified skin on top. Definitely it won’t run MIUI as some sources suggested prior to the phone’s announcement. The phone’s software does include a special performance mode, which can be activated via the ‘SHARK’ key on the side.

There’s no indication we’ll see this phone launch anywhere outside of China, but it will land later this month starting at ¥2,999 (around $480). The top-tier 8GB/128GB model lands at ¥3,499 (around $560).

Black Shark Gamepad

Its a gadget attached to the bottom side of the phone, and adds an analog stick to the experience, plus some buttons. This accessory uses Bluetooth 4.0 in order to connect to the device. This gamepad packs in a 150mAh non-removable battery, and the company says that you can use it for gaming for about 3.5 hours before you’ll need to charge it, while it can sit on standby for about 30 hours.
