Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro has a lot of amazing features, good design, dual camera, 18:9 display aspect ratio and FHD+ resolution. But one thing that it lacks is Android Oreo. The device was spotted running Android 8.1 Oreo at MWC 2018. This clearly indicates that Xiaomi will be skipping Android 8.0 Oreo and directly go with 8.1.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Android Oreo
According to a report by GizChina, Xiaomi could release a new update for the Redmi Note 5 Pro and the international variant of the Redmi Note 5 Pro may be launched with Android 8.1 Oreo update. Recently Xiaomi announced Redmi Note 5 Pro in India that was running MIUI 9.2 based on Android Nougat 7.1 out-of-the-box.
Xiaomi might also launch this device with Project Treble support. But if the device spotted in the video was just updated to Android 8.1 Oreo then Xiaomi might bypass Project Treble support. According to this project, if you are updating the smartphone from a previous version then the Treble compatibility is not a requirement. But if Android Oreo is running out-of-the-box then it must cater to the requirements of Project Treble.
Xiaomi is mum about the release of Redmi Note 5 Pro’s international variant. May be it will be released soon as it has been spotted at MWC 2018. Even if it is released, Xiaomi should add Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 over it. This is because almost all smartphones released in 2018 are running Android Oreo out-of-the-box.
What do you think about Project Treble? Will Xiaomi satisfy the requirements or just try to bypass it?
