Why everyone hates the new Snapchat update?

Snapchat was recently refurbished that completely changes the design. It is now more focused on separating “media content” from that of “friends” among an array of other interface changes. This has drawn a lot of criticism with more than 800,000 people have signed an online petition calling on Snapchat to revert its update back to the original design.

Snapchat Stories, which are videos and photos shared among users that vanish after 24 hours, also now appear with individual Snaps and direct messages. Ever since the redesign, people have been talking about switching to Instagram Stories instead. The LikeFolio study showed a dramatic surge in tweets about switching to the feature.

The petition reads “Many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use but has in fact made many features more difficult,”. It’s normal to see a negative reaction to user interface changes, but the backlash toward Snapchat’s redesign is unprecedented, according to LikeFolio founder Andy Swan.

There’s no surge in download of Instagram as many Snapchat users are also a part of it. The user base of Instagram is way too large compared to Snapchat. There has not been a decrease in Snapchat downloads yet, but it’s too early to tell what the lasting impact will be.

Despite the pleas, parent firm Snap Inc. currently has no plans to reconsider the original design. In a statement, a spokeswoman said “updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in”.
