After Jio’s entry into telecom sector last year, it created flutters among other operators. Every Telecom Operator had fear of losing their customers to Jio. To retain their customers, rival companies also started similar offers. There was an urging need for Jio to even defy this. With the launch of JioPhone in August, Jio did try to woo customers of other company. The phone was available for just Rs 1,500 which was refundable after 3 years. Now Airtel and Aircel has also launched a similair offer. Let’s have a close look at each of these offer.

Airtel Karbonn Offer

The offer is “Mera Pehle Phone” and Airtel has partnered with Karbonn mobiles to launch A40 Indian, a budget VoLTE smartphone supporting 22 Indian languages at a price of Rs 1,399/. With Airtel on board, this phone will also have a special offer plan of Rs 169/ which offers customers unlimited calls and 0.5 GB 4G data per day for 28 days.

Aircel Lava Offer

A similar tie up was made by Aircel with Lava. The Lava users upon recharging with Rs. 153 Aircel pack every 28 days for 24 months will get unlimited voice calls, 2G Data, SMS, and Music. The phone is priced at just Rs 850, and one key feature is that you can get your Rs 850 back after 24 months without needing to return your device as in Jio’s case. The cashback which you will receive will not be in the form of talktime, instead Aircel will transfer it to your bank account using RTGS.

Commenting on the offer, Anupam Vasudev, Chief Marketing Officer- Aircel, said, “This bundled offer by Aircel and Lava mobiles not only enables our customers the opportunity get back 100% of their device investment but also gives them the benefits of Unlimited Aircel Voice, Data, SMS, and Music. We at Aircel continue to strive and offer complete mobile connectivity solutions to our customers at a great value.”

The phone has 1.8 inch QVGA display with a resolution of 128×160 pixels. It also has 1.3 MP VGA Rear camera with support for flash. It packs in 800 mAh Li-Ion battery and supports dual SIM which supports only 2G. Basically its a basic feature phone. One major drawback is Aircel still doesn’t have 3G services in all circles, so this can be a deal breaker for many.
