The phone will provide competition to Huawei P9 ,Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro and OnePlus 5. It will be exclusively available on Flipkart for Rs 26,999 in two colors. Lets see what the latest Asus Zenfone Zoom S has to offer, will it be able to withstand against its competitors?
Asus has ditched its concentric circle design at the bottom. The body is made up of metal and it looks incredibly beautiful. The back cover is non removable. The edges are rounded that gives a premium look to the phone. The phone is 7.9mm thick and weighs 170g. Asus has even provided bumper to protect the chassis. At the back, there’s a Dual camera ,right below it is Dual Led flash and RGB sensor, followed by fingerprint sensor. There’s Asus branding on the lower part of the back cover. At the bottom we have the 3.5 mm jack, USB charging slot, Speakers and noise cancellation mic. At the top there’s an IR blaster which can be used to control T.V, A.C etc. On the front there are hardware navigation keys, Front camera, proximity sensor, Earpiece and notification LED lights. The left side of the phone has power and volume rocker buttons while the right side has SIM card tray.
Asus Zenfone Zoom S has some serious optics. There‘s a 12 MP Dual Camera on the front. The left camera has aperture of f / 1.7 and the latest Sony IMX362 sensor which clicks the actual pictures, while the right camera has aperture of f /2.8 and Sony IMX362 sensor. This combination, along with a large 1.4μm pixel size and six-element lens, allows 1.25x more light into the sensor. Asus claims that this phone can click even in poor lighting conditions. The camera is further enhanced by Asus SuperPixel technology that captures 2.5x more light. The camera supports 12x optical zoom, OIS, 4K recording with support for. The lens is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. There’s a manual mode which allows you to manipulate the lens as per your choice.
On the front there’s a 13 MP shooter (f /2.0) with Sony IMX214 sensor. It also has Asus SuperPixel technology that promises to soak 2x more light. Though there’s no front flash, Asus has added white screen when you click selfies.
Hardware and Software.
The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Octa core processor clocked at 2.0 GHz coupled with 4 GB RAM and Adreno 506 GPU. The processor is snappy and consumes 35% less power. The phone runs on Zen UI that’s based on Android 6.0.1.
Storage and Battery
It has 64 GB internal storage. If this is too less for you then you can expand upto 2 TB via MicroSD card. This device gets its juice from 5,000 mAh battery that promises to give 42 days stand-by. The phone can even be used as a powerbank to charge other devices.
Asus Zenfone Zoom S has 5.5 inch Full HD AMOLED display. It also has a 2.5D glass that gives a premium feel. For protection it has Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
It includes Accelerator, E-Compass, Proximity, Gyroscope (for Camera EIS Require), Ambient Light Sensor, IR Sensor, RGB Sensor and Fingerprint Sensor.
It has support for Dual SIM which is painfully hybrid which means you can use only one SIM card at a time if you are using MicroSD card. Network capabilities include 4G VoLTE, LTE, 3G and 2G. Also present are Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Wi-Fi hotspot.
The phone has a brilliant camera and a massive battery. With a combo of OIS and EIS you get a camera which is even better than iPhone 7. Pictures clicked have extreme details even when you use optical zoom. What’s disappointing is that it runs on Android Marshmallow which is almost outdated now. Overall, an excellent device from Asus.
