After the disastrous battery failures of Samsung Galaxy Note 7, Samsung faced a lot of criticism and had seen a major drop in their market shares. People started losing their faith as they feared the same outcomes as Note 7 from their other Samsung phones. But Samsung fought through this period with honor and pride. And Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is their comeback punch. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is and might be the best  comeback story in the world of Android smartphones. Here are some facts, rumors and Savvydroid’s expectation from Galaxy Note 8.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 release date

Samsung is going to launch Galaxy Note 8 on 23 August, as per the invite sent to media a month in advance.

But the question arises, when will it be in your hand? Samsung earlier hinted that by early September, it will be launched in many countries in European and american regions while it will be in Asia by late October. But from the sources and other reports, Galaxy Note 8 i suppose to hit the market by 15 September.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 screen

Note series phones are known to make groundbreaking screens with more vibrant colors and size resolution, but this time its more than that.

It’s possible that the Note 8 will be one of the first smartphones with a pixel-dense 4K screen, with convincing rumors backing up that theory.

But a 4K screen is important when your phone doubles as a Samsung Gear VR headset screen. Otherwise, you’ll see individual pixels (that’s what we call the screen door effect) when it’s just two inches from your face.

Though this theory is looking ever less likely, with recent rumors pointing to a 1440 x 2960 screen, just like the Galaxy S8.

Now lets talk about its size. Note series has stuck to a screen size of 5.7 inch since the launch of Note 3, but this time they break the trend. Note 8 is supposed to have a 6.2 inch QLED+ screen , which is very much similar to Galaxy S8 and 8 Plus.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 design

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 design is likely to take almost all of its cues from the glass-and-metal sandwich that is the Galaxy S8 Plus. It’s almost a Note phone – minus the stylus.

Samsung’s ‘Infinity Display’ doesn’t seem like a one-off marketing term. It’s here to stay, and you can see how the screen and phone might look in the renders below.

These are apparently based on a factory CAD and indeed they show a Galaxy S8-like design, with a cruved glass front and back and almost no bezels. But they also include an ugly camera bump and the dimensions point to a chunky phone that comes in at 162.4 x 74.5 x 8.4mm, going up to 9.5mm on the camera bump.

In other news, instead of a physical home button, the Note 8 is rumored to have a pressure-sensitive screen that brings up different menus and options depending on how hard you press the display. The S8 and S8 Plus have this, but it’s limited to the home button.

The S8 and S8 Plus shifted the fingerprint scanner to the back, awkwardly next to the camera lens. Cue the smudges.

But returning it to the front, under the display, would be ideal placement when such technology is ready – though rumors suggest it may not be ready in time, and leaked images such as the renders above show it on the back.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 camera

Samsung’s camera is always on upgrade since the launch of Samsung Galaxy S7 and they have not disappointed even now.

Supposedly, the Galaxy Note 8 will have a 12MP wide-angle lens and a 13MP telephoto one, and you’ll be able to combine them for a 3x optical zoom.

Those specs match up with some information spotted on Samsung’s semiconductor website.

And it all sounds a lot like the setup on the iPhone 7 Plus, which allows for a 2x optical zoom, though hopefully you’ll also be able to use the sensors independently like on the LG G6.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 OS and Battery life

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have a 3,300 mAh Battery, which is way more than the Samsung Galaxy S8 and 8 plus. Samsung is not known for putting higher value Battery like its rivals, but it fits in a lot of internal technology. Also we have to keep in our  ind that the battery needs to be safer than its predecessor.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is supposed to have the same specs as that of S8 and S8 plus, but will receive a boost in the RAM.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have a Qualcomm Sanpdragon 835 with a whooping 6 GB RAM. It will be available in both 64GB and 128 GB sizes with a micro-SD expansion slot.

As for software, Samsung renamed TouchWiz to ‘Samsung Experience,’ and it’s actually likable. We expect a further refined operating system overlay based on Android Nougat, more specifically Android 7.1.1 if rumors are to be believed.

Some additional features

  • A stylus with a speaker
  • A fingerprint scanner built into the screen
  • An iris scanner
  • Bixby AI 2.0

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 price

As speculated and based on the rumors, Note 8 will range over a $1000 , which is over 65k in India, making it in the high price range phones.

Savvydroid’s Take:  Note 8 has shown some real cool features and if believed on the rumors, it does make a lot of sense to wait for the phone to launch. But like other Samsung phones, i still feel it lacks on battery life as having such high specifications requires a much bigger and better battery life. Also , at some point it feels as if it’s an attempt to make a larger and smarter version of Galaxy 8,which takes away the points for its creativity. Overall, It is a damn good phone, But for the price range it falls in, It should have provided something more on the table.
